New Air Conditioners in Washington DC Can Make You Money

Did you know that you could install a new air conditioner in your home and make money? The models that are manufactured today are more energy efficient than ever before and the money you will save on replacing an older inefficient model will pay for the unit and end up putting more money in your pocket over the long run.

The people who can make the most money off of new high efficiency Washington DC air conditioners are homeowners who have systems that were installed before the year 2000. In the 1980's and 90's, the AC units were produced without any concern for conserving energy. As utility bills started to rise however and the nation became more environmentally conscious that changed. Now we have models from companies like Bryant that can cool a home and do it at half the cost of the older models.

Energy efficiency is measured by the SEER rating which stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. Models made before 2000 have a SEER rating of 6 or lower which means that they require a great deal of electricity to function properly. The government now requires manufacturers to produce Washington DC air conditioners with a minimum SEER rating of 13 and encourages the companies to shoot even higher to conserve even more energy. Top models at Bryant can have a SEER rating of 21 which means it uses 66% less energy that the units manufactured over a decade ago.

It is easy to do the math to determine how much money installing a new air conditioner will save you. Gather up your utility bills from the last few summers and add them up. The government estimates that about half of the electric bill goes toward air conditioning so divide your total in half. In warm weather climates Washington DC, the average Washington DC air conditioning bill per year is about $2000 so if you install one of the top of the line new air conditioners you might be able to cut your electric bill by $1200. In five or six years with a moderately priced system, the savings will have paid for the air conditioner and after that you have an extra grand to spend on whatever you want!
